Product details

The HC-020K Photoelectric Speed Sensor Module is a compact and reliable sensor designed to measure rotational speed, wheel movement, and motor RPM in robotics and DIY electronics projects.

Using an infrared photoelectric detection system, the module detects interruptions in an infrared beam as a slotted encoder disc rotates through the sensor. These interruptions generate digital pulses that can be processed by a microcontroller to calculate rotational speed, wheel speed, and movement.

Ideal for Arduino-based robotics, smart vehicles, motor control systems, and educational electronics projects.

Key Features

  • Model: HC-020K

  • Sensor Type: Infrared Photoelectric Speed Sensor

  • Operating Voltage: Typically 3.3V–5V DC

  • Output Type: Digital Pulse Signal

  • Detection Method: Infrared Beam Interruption

  • Measurement Capability: Rotational Speed, Motor RPM, and Wheel Speed

  • Encoder Compatibility: Slotted Encoder Discs

  • Microcontroller Compatibility: Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other development boards

  • Compact Design: Easy integration into robotic vehicles and motor assemblies

  • Non-Contact Detection: Measures rotation without physical contact with the moving disc

Applications

  • Robot wheel speed measurement

  • Smart car and robotic vehicle projects

  • DC motor RPM monitoring

  • Wheel rotation detection

  • Distance and movement estimation

  • Motor speed feedback systems

  • Robotics and automation projects

  • STEM education and electronics experiments

How It Works

The HC-020K uses an infrared transmitter and receiver positioned on opposite sides of a slot.

When a slotted encoder disc rotates through the sensor, the infrared beam is repeatedly blocked and unblocked, generating electrical pulses.

A connected microcontroller counts these pulses to determine rotational speed.

RPM Calculation:

RPM = (Pulse Frequency × 60) ÷ Number of Slots

For example, using a 20-slot encoder disc, a measured pulse frequency of 100 Hz corresponds to 300 RPM.

Package Includes

  • 1 × HC-020K Photoelectric Speed Sensor Module

  • 1 × Slotted Encoder Disc (if included with the selected kit)

Note: The number of slots on the encoder disc determines the measurement resolution. Verify the included accessories, operating voltage, and pin configuration before installation. A microcontroller is required to process the sensor signals.
